Big fun this weekend with two new big kid bikes. Got them on Saturday afternoon and spent over 2 hours riding around Piedmont Park today.

on Vimeo.Doesn’t feel like summer should be over yet, but today was the first day of school here in Atlanta, and a big day in our house since Lucas is off to Kindergarten! We are having a really hard time believing he’s already old enough to get on the bus and go to school all day, but he loved it and can’t wait to go back tomorrow. Here are some photo highlights.
Walking to the bus stop, excited about the new McQueen backpack with matching lunchbox.
Like tons of other parents, we jumped in the car as soon as he was on the bus and rushed over to meet the bus at the front of the school. They had the school mascot out to meet the bus as well. There was an email sent out to parents a couple of weeks ago asking for a volunteer to wear the mascot suit on day 1….next year Thomaz will have to do it! And Stella had fun seeing one of her BFFs Kaya, whose big sis is starting kindergarten too.
Things got down to business once we got to the classroom, figuring out where to put the bag, finding a seat. He did great!
He got off the bus at the end of the day and had nothing but great things to say about kindergarten!

We had a fun birthday weekend over here. Hard to believe that Lucas is 5 years old already!! Feels like just yesterday we were bringing him home…
Lucas requested an airplane party this year, and when I tried to get him to look at some different options for invitations we could buy online, he said “no no” we can draw airplanes, lemme show you. And then we proceeded to make 24 invitations like this 🙂 each with their own Lucas original drawn on the front!
We also had fun brainstorming with him what to do for the cake, and decided to make our own runway cake. Stella helped of course.
Friday after school he got to open his presents. Stella looks on (with a bit of a jealous face on). He got a t-ball set from Grandma Jan and Grandpa Clark, and some art supplies from Stella, and a huge Cargo Airplane Lego from mom and dad. He was pretty happy!
Saturday we had his party in the park across the street, and it looked like it might rain but we got lucky with perfect weather. Had about 20 kids plus parents, was a really fun time!
We’ve had a couple of beautiful fall weekends here in Atlanta! This time of year our park across the street is just so pretty. Here’s a video from a couple weeks ago (pw=pitanga)
Here we are playing in the park last weekend
And this was yesterday, in the backyard, covered in leaves, we filled 2 bags worth and didn’t even make a dent.
Then later in the evening Thomaz built a fire pit out of old patio stones, and we had hot cocoa and built a fire. Was all very exciting! (video pw=pitanga)

Halloween gets more and more fun every year. Stella and Lucas were both way excited about it! Sometime in Sept Stella’s school had farm week, and she has since declared that pigs are her “fav-bo-it” animal. So when asked what she wanted to be for Halloween she decided to be a piggy.
Lucas wanted to be Dusty from the Disney planes movie, but was very disappointed at the Target version of the Dusty costume and asked if we could make one with bigger wings. So we made an awesome costume out of a box. Everyone got to help with the spray paint in the backyard, and then he proceeded to not wear it (the wings were too big of course). Oh well, at least we got some good pics 🙂
Working on the costume:
Dressed up and getting a head start on candy before we even head out to the party at the neighbors…
Yard party + trick or treating with friends
Tearing into the candy….fun times!

This summer we finally did something we had wanted to do for a long time – go to Wyoming with the kids! We spent several days at the cabin, then a few more days in Casper. Lucas and Stella had a good time and everyone there really enjoyed meeting them too.
Here are some photos of our adventure.
The weekend after Lucas’ birthday we had a fun fun party at the house, with an insane number of people (I think we figured that there were 35 people total, 18 kids). Lucas was very excited about inviting all his friends from school and was very excited about a Lego party, so that’s what we did!
We made invitations that looked like Legos…Lucas punched all the holes and I attached them to the cards.
We had kids playing in every corner of our house, and backyard basketball was a bit hit as well.
Happy birthday + cupcakes
Stella especially enjoyed hers!
…and was sneaky enough to get one from mom and another from dad…
Here’s Lucas handing out the Lego goody bags
Now we have lots of new Legos to keep us busy for a while!

I think I’m finally starting to understand those moms that you see crying at the bus stop every year, sending their babies off to kindergarden. We’re not there yet, but man it’s really hard to believe that our little Lucas is already 4. (Up until the day before his birthday if you asked him how old he was he said “free and a haf”…but now he excitedly says “FOUR!”).
Here are some picks from his actual birthday, May 9th (which also happened to be pajama day at school, which is why L and S are both sporting their jammies.) We opened presents the minute we got home from school. A coveted Lego City burning fire house was from mom and dad, some a Dinosaur Train figures from Stella, and a Lego Garbage truck from Grandpa Clark and Grandma Jan.
And he couldn’t wait to start building the Legos immediately!
And of course a yummy cake for dessert. This is a fruit tart that they sell at Whole Foods that I got for Thomaz’ birthday all the way back in September, and ever since then every time Lucas sees this tart in bakery section he says “Thats just for birthdays, right mom?” So we finally got to get another one, and it was a big hit!
