Lazy dog days
Lazy dog days

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

It’s good to be a dog, most days are lazy lounging around the house days. Here are a couple of recent photos of our not-so-little-anymore dudes… Luigi is the yellow one, Mario the black…

Meeting Molly

Our friends Susan and LeRoi were passing through Atlanta a couple of weeks ago, on their way to visit LeRoi’s grandmother. So, we got the chance to meet Miss Molly, who is now 4 months old. She is a doll, and so calm and sweet. We’re looking forward to spending more time with them in Houston for July 4th.

Goodbye Yemen, Hello Argentina!

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

We are pretty excited that my dad made it home safely this week from his LAST TRIP TO YEMEN!! He’s been working over there (5 wks on 5 wks off) for the past several months, and recently it’s been pretty scary with the violence and security situation. The apartment complex where he stays was actually bombed less than a month ago, luckily it was during his time off in Houston.

So our whole fam is very thankful to have him home safe and sound! And looking forward to his new assignment in Argentina. Hopefully we can make a trip down there sometime in the next year… Mui Bien!

Man vs. Nature

We finally conquered the weeds last weekend! We decided that rather than go for the gold, and try to have a real grass lawn, for now we’ll settle for a nicely manicured weed lawn. After deducing that the old lawn mower we found in the shed was left there for a reason, we headed off and purchased our first lawn mower. Another sign that we are real home owners now. I tried to get some before and after photos, as you can see, it’s a major improvement.

And our neighbor totally laughed at us taking these photos… 🙂

Containing the puppies

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

So, we’ve been slacking on the posts…mostly because we spend a lot of time trying to stay one step ahead of the dogs these days. Most days we’re in charge, but some days it seems like it’s the other way around. But they are highly entertaining, we’re having a lot of fun!

Housetraining is going pretty well, no recent accidents (knock on wood). But until we feel completely confident, we’ve been keeping them confined to the kitchen, the office, and the backyard. We thought that confining them wouldn’t be too difficult until they got bigger, but turns out they are pretty smart. Indoors, we got a baby gate, to keep them out of the dining room.

babygate

This lasted for all of a week, before I came home one day and as soon as I came through the front door, I see a blur of blond hair coming my way. Luigi had learned to do a flying leap over the baby gate, where he flies over it and mid-air he gets his back legs on the gate to launch even further. Pretty impressive! …So, now we just keep the dining room door closed.

Our other major front in the containment battle was the backyard. Our yard doesn’t have a fence (yet), so the first week we had the puppies we put up a temporary solution with some 3 ft. tall wire rabbit fence. This worked pretty well, everywhere that we could stake it down. But the driveway was a problem, we had to just string it across and pull it as tight as we could. It took about 2 weeks before Mario realized he could pretty much just walk over the fence and it would bend all the way down. But…we were not to be defeated. Home depot to the rescue!

We bought supplies: wood lattice, some 4x4s, and a post digger. And we built a better temporary fence in an afternoon. Here is our masterpiece:

And the puppies seem to be successfully contained…for now 🙂
